
How to make your UV curing tubes actually last
Let’s be honest: nobody likes it when a UV tube dies right in the middle of a big run. It’s a headache and a waste of money. Most of these tubes work by using a plasma discharge to kick off the curing process in your inks and resins. The problem is that industrial cycles are brutal. They create a ton of thermal stress. We built our tubes specifically to take that beating without falling apart like the cheap stuff you find online. The heat factor Here is the thing about power density. Your output depends on mercury vapor pressure and electrical load. We’ve spent a lot of time calibrating the wattage and voltage so the arc stays stable from one end of the quartz to the other. If you’re pushing high wattage into a small space, you’re going to get some serious irradiance. That’s great for curing, but it getshot. Really hot. Just make sure your cooling fans or water jackets are actually up to the task. If the tube overheats, the quartz stresses out. And once that happens, your lifespan plummets. Why the materials matter We use high-purity fused quartz because it doesn’t soak up the UV light. Cheap glass acts like a wall, blocking the exact wavelengths you’re paying for. Then there are the electrodes. In most tubes, this is where things go wrong. We use specialized alloys to stop “sputtering”—that annoying process where electrode material gunk up the inside of the glass. It keeps the tube clear. No “darkening” effect, no drop in curing speed.
